MAINLAND INSTITUTIONAL PROFILE

MAINLAND

Know what moves Africa.

MAINLAND is a video-first African media organisation built to explain the forces shaping the continent. We report on technology, business, money, power, politics, culture, travel and history.

OUR EDITORIAL PHILOSOPHY

Our journalism starts with a simple idea: Knowing what happened is not enough. We want to understand why it happened, who made it happen, who benefits, who pays, what the evidence shows and what it means for the people affected by it.

MAINLAND produces original reporting, explainers, interviews, documentaries, investigations, data journalism, field reporting and visual stories. We are starting from Nigeria while building journalism for audiences across Africa and around the world.

OUR MISSION: HELP AFRICA UNDERSTAND ITSELF.

MAINLAND exists to make important African stories understandable, accessible and difficult to ignore. We report beyond announcements, press releases, surface headlines, and social-media outrage. We seek the systems underneath the story.

•When a policy changes: What actually changed?
•When a company raises money: What do they actually do?
•When prices increase: Why?
•When technology transforms an industry: Who wins? Who loses?
